WHP: The Original Fire Training Tower

Proven Durability & Safety With WHP Trainingtowers®

As community settings grow more complex, it's time to think outside the (shipping) box.

Recognizing the need for a sturdier tool for fire crews, WHP Trainingtowers arrived on-scene in 1980 with the world’s first purpose-built training tower.

In the early 2000s, some training officers shifted to converted shipping containers to save a buck, but those "buildings" are risky, easily damaged, pose chemical risks, and a chore to upkeep.

Realizing this, WHP changed the game again by creating the only modular steel training system in the world.

How? It’s simple – we’re born from real firefighting and engineering experience.

The 3 Pillars of WHP Training Structures

Three qualities set WHP Trainingtowers apart from the competition:

EXPERTISE:

We understand how much decision making has to happen before you invest in a training solution. From our preconstruction team to post-sale support, we’ll give you a straightforward, turn-key process at every step. And most importantly – all of our towers are built by firefighters, engineers, and construction pros specifically for the firefighting industry.

INNOVATION:

To make your training equipment as safe, strong, and durable as possible, we’ve continued to R&D new, innovative products and improve on existing ones. We collaborate with and listen to you to understand your evolving needs.

QUALITY:

We want your investment to be low-maintenance and high-value. Our first structure was built 46 years ago in Kotzebue, Alaska – and it’s still going strong! Here are several unique ways we build our towers to stand the tests of time and flame:

WHP Trainingtowers - Corrugated Cladding example of quality

Corrugated Cladding noneOur cladding consists of structural panels that are much thicker than most commercially available metal buildings (13-18 gauge) and, as a result, much stronger. This sturdiness gives you the design flexibility to create open training spaces.

Hot-Dipped Galvanized Steel noneRather than just being sprayed with a galvanizing material, our panels are hot-dipped into a vat of galvanizing material at a high temperature. This assures a superior coating that resists rust and corrosion. Our ASTM A123 structures exceed the 50-year mark on the “time to first maintenance” (TFM) chart.

WHP Trainingtowers - Secondary Framing System example of quality

Secondary Framing System noneDesign with your building’s future in mind – 10, 20, and 50 years down the line. Although our primary framing system is engineered to stand alone, we add a secondary system for extra rigidity. Despite this sturdiness, WHP structures still offer future flexibility and allow for laddering and rappelling.

Why Do Some WHP Training Buildings Look So Different?

Our Alarm Series® fixed towers use a military-grade, proprietary wall cladding system. The setup consists of vertical structural panels with 4.5″ deep corrugations embedded with a series of smaller corrugations. The cladding is structurally bolted together every 6″, creating the strongest steel cladding on the market.

Siding and screws don’t cut it when it comes to repeated physical abuse from laddering and rappelling. Our buildings may look different than the rest, but they also hold up the longest.
