It’s the people at WHP Trainingtowers™ who are truly behind our success. We sat down with Sam Cross, a Project Engineer, to find out a little more about his job and his life:
How long have you worked at WHP?
I had a summer internship with WHP in the summer of 2023 while working on my degree. I then graduated and started at WHP in January of 2024. So, a little less than a year.
What are you responsible for?
I am responsible for making sure each project has the necessary material and resources to help the project run smoothly and efficiently. I do this by reviewing the project’s contract documents to help determine what exactly is needed for the job. I then perform material takeoff of each training tower and order materials accordingly. I am also responsible for finding subcontractors to install concrete foundations and do other project-specific site work before we put up a tower.
What do you do on a daily basis?
I do most of my work on the computer, coordinating with customers, subcontractors, and suppliers. I also help the Project Manager and executives with tasks when asked.
What do you like most about your job?
I know it’s cliche, but what I like most about my job is the people I work with. We spend so much of our time at work and it makes life easier when your coworkers are friendly and easy to work with. Everyone brings their own set of skills, perspectives and ideas to work every day which makes figuring out complex issues as a team a walk in the park. It is nice to work with people when they all take pride in their jobs but also genuinely care about their coworkers.
What makes WHP a great place to work?
WHP is a great place to work because it is rapidly growing. This rapid growth promotes a sense of excitement as everyone works toward a common goal which strengthens a project team.
How do you help clients?
I help clients understand each phase of the project and work with them to provide a product that exceeds their expectations.
What makes you proud about WHP Trainingtowers™?
I am proud of WHP for being the go-to solution to build a top-of-the-line fire training facility. We are the only fire training structure provider that offers turnkey solutions and we take pride in being able to give the owner the product they are looking for from beginning to end.
Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of work.
I was born and raised in Lenexa, Kansas and went to Pittsburg State University, where I got a degree in Construction Management. In my free time, I really enjoy riding my bike, fishing, or doing anything outdoors. I also enjoy watching sports… pretty much any live event besides soccer.
