Welcome, John McCoy – Construction Superintendent

John McCoy, WHP Fire Training Towers

It’s the people at WHP Trainingtowers™ who are truly behind our success. We sat down with John McCoy, one of the latest additions to our team, to find out a little more about his job and his life:

How long have you worked at WHP?

I have been with WHP Trainingtowers™ for about two months.

What are you responsible for?

I am responsible for scheduling all the subcontractors and WHP travel crew as well as troubleshooting any issues that arise on the job sites. I also build relationships with the subcontractors, owners, and firemen who will use the towers.

What do you do on a daily basis?

I answer phone calls and handle any issues that arise on job sites, travel to finished jobs to do burn/ins. I line out the travel crew for the next job site. I strategize with the management team on issues and maintain contact with subcontractors.

What do you like most about your job?

I like building relationships with customers and proudly maintaining the integrity of WHP. It’s always challenging and rewarding. We all truly work together.

What makes WHP a great place to work?

The family atmosphere. It’s a conglomerate of helping each other achieve our daily tasks and goals.

How do you help clients?

I try to add a personal touch to each job that comes along and build strong relationships that will last a lifetime. We maintain quality control throughout the job by being in constant contact with subcontractors and the client. We build a quality fire training tower that they can use and be proud of for years. We stand by our product by servicing and providing maintenance, when needed, once the structure is completed.

What makes you proud about WHP Trainingtowers™?

We build an advanced structure that will create a more realistic training scenario that will change how we look at training firefighters and first responders for years to come. Ultimately, this will help save more lives.

Tell us a little bit about yourself outside of work.

I grew up in the country, in a little town called Pleasant Hill, MO. After high school I went to night school for firefighting and EMT training. Then I attended trade school for Union Iron work. I spent 21 years there before becoming a construction superintendent. I was a superintendent for the Veterans Hospital here in Kansas City, Leavenworth and Columbia before finding my home at WHP. I am married to a wonderful woman, Trish, and have two amazing kids. My son Bradley received a scholarship to play men’s volleyball and our daughter, Katie also plays volleyball for the high school team and a competitive team. We love to hunt on our land, make music, sing and dance. My son and I sing professionally at the Big Creek Opry in Pleasant Hill. We enjoy bonfires, sand volleyball, line dancing, playing the guitar, and family get-togethers.

We are excited to welcome John McCoy and look forward to getting to know him better and witnessing all that he brings to our team! At WHPTrainingtowers, we provide the highest quality, most rugged metal fire training buildings available.
